His real name could be the reason for his facial expression. Tabatha named the cat "Tard." This could very well explain why the cat looks so grumpy. Wouldn't you be? Everywhere it goes now the cat gets a full escort, as you can see. A name change might be welcomed but a smiling cat might not pull in the same amount of cash right? -

She was 11 years old when the famous photo was taken and it was done on purpose, but only for fun, not for fame. Nobody had any idea that it would become the sensation that it did. A source once told Vanity Fair that “Goldenberger put on the vest, hoisted her hair up into intentionally dorky pigtails, brandished the chosen books, and pulled an intentionally hideous face for the camera. Normally, she hardly ever wore her retainer like she was supposed to, but it felt right for the character: she put it on for the shoot.” -
